Regulations and Services

General Library Rules

  • Bags or backpacks are not allowed in the Library.
  • Silence, cleanliness, and order need to be preserved.
  • Mobile phones are not allowed in the Library.
  • Food or liquids are not permitted, except water.
  • Computers are for educational purposes only. Online games, online chat rooms, access to forums, and commercial activities are strictly prohibited.
  • Readers are requested to leave the books on the table after reading
  • Any damage to Library material will hold the borrower responsible.

Failure to comply with Library rules will result in loss of Library privileges.

Services

User training

  • In collaboration with the librarian, teachers deliver information literacy lessons aimed at developing students’ skills necessary for critical thinking in searching, locating, organizing, evaluating, and using information. These lessons also focus on understanding the importance of proper bibliographic citation and on creating bibliographies based on international formatting standards, such as MLA.
  • At the beginning of each academic year, an orientation seminar is conducted for Grade 7 students to familiarize them with the organization, operation, and use of the Library.
  • As part of various courses and to meet students’ information needs, some classes are conducted in the Library, again in cooperation with the teacher and the librarian.
  • Finally, seminars are offered covering Library operations and the use of databases.

Borrowing

All members of the school’s community, staff, and graduates of Pierce, Deree, and Alba, have borrowing privileges. These rights come with obligations that facilitate the libraries’ operations and proper service to all.

Library Rules apply to everyone, with specifics depending on the user's status.

Students

  • Presenting the College ID, is mandatory for borrowing.
  • Students can borrow up to 15 books for 15 days, with a maximum of two renewals.
  • Borrowing rights are strictly personal and non-transferable.
  • Only those without outstanding issues as per Library rules may borrow.
  • Encyclopedias, dictionaries, and magazines are not for lending.
  • Materials must be borrowed in accordance with the rules to be taken out of the Library.
  • Users may request up to 5 borrowed books; once returned, the student will be notified, and the books will be held for four days.
  • All borrowed books can be recalled by the Library, if necessary.
  • In the event of loss or damage, the user must either replace the item or pay the purchase cost plus a €5 processing fee.

Educators and Administrative Staff

  • Presenting the College ID is mandatory for borrowing.
  • Educators and administrative staff may borrow up to 30 books for 15 days with up to 5 automatic renewals.
  • For audiovisual materials (videocassettes, CDs, DVDs), the borrowing period is 7 days; for CD players, one day.
  • Borrowing rights are strictly personal and non-transferable.
  • Only those without outstanding issues as per Library rules may borrow.
  • Encyclopedias, dictionaries, and magazines are not for lending
  • Materials must be borrowed in accordance with the rules to be taken out of the Library.
