Aghia Paraskevi Campus After-School Activities

Academic Year 2024-2025

Always aiming at quality, all-round education and cultivation of the students' personality, Pierce offers a comprehensive set of Activities, Clubs and Academies, which our students can use in the afternoon hours, after the end of the morning program.

Athletic Activites

For many years, the After-School Sports Program has been an extension and supplement to the Physical Education program of the Gymnasium and Lyceum. At the end of the school day, students have the opportunity to do the sport of their choice and, at the same time, to have fun and get to know each other better. The After-School Sports Program includes 8 different activities – sports and, with the guidance of specialized coaches – Physical Education teachers, students learn the basic techniques of each sport. Especially for the After-School Sports Activities, you will have to submit a Medical Certificate. Please note that the Health Form that is submitted for the morning program does not cover a student’s participation in these activities.

The After-School Sports Program is carried out by the Deree College Athletic Club.

Literature & Arts

The aim of the club is to familiarize students with the entire process of producing a theatrical work (acting, directing, creating scenery, costumes, music, lighting), collaboration in a multi-faceted team and the dedication required of everyone to a common goal. Members of the Greek Drama Club develop their skills, take initiative, gain self-confidence, share in the significant experience of presenting a complete performance in front of an audience and, most importantly, broaden their knowledge of the theater while, at the same time, they become more artistically aware.

Contemporary theater from the world repertoire, improvisational theater, story-telling, as well as Aristophanes, have all been applauded on the stage of our Theater, the highlight being winning 2nd Prize for the Attica Region from the Ministry of Education, for the work “Play On” by Rick Abbott (2009).

Teacher responsible: Ms. Μ. Salliari
Day and time: Wednesday 15:30 – 17:00

The aim of the Club is to familiarize students with theater art and to prepare a theater performance in English. Through texts by great authors we will discover new characters, we will collaborate, we will improvise, we will experiment with the possibilities of our expressive means (body and voice), we will lead our imagination on unknown paths and all this TOGETHER, as a group.

Students will take on roles on stage as well as behind the scenes: they will design and create sets and costumes, they will work on the promotion of a theater performance (creating a poster / program), on make-up and also on the adaptation of an original text. There is a “role” for everyone.

“The theater doesn’t show you the right path but offers you the means to explore every possible path”

A. Boal

Club Advisors: Ms. Gisela Iosif and Mr. Apostolos Mavrommatis
Day and time: Tuesday 15:30 – 17:00

The aim of the Club is to provide theatrical education to the students, to develop self-confidence through live speech and stage action, to cooperate with classmates and teachers, to enhance creativity and to improve verbal and non-verbal communication. Finally, taking responsibility, gaining critical thinking and focusing on the goal are among the main benefits of joining a theater group.

In the context of the operation of the Club – in addition to the preparation and presentation of a theatrical performance – there is also the repetition of the performance “love I searched for the right” for the students, the organization of a Festival with the participation of schools from Greece and abroad, the organization and participation in theater seminars, as well as the possibility of participating in the ISTA Festival in Syracuse.

The club will not be offered in the 2024-25 school year

The aim of the Art Academy is to develop skills, fruitful experimentation with a variety of materials and art techniques, aesthetic exercise, artistic expression and experiential knowledge of modern movements, as well as the cultivation of team spirit and communication through Art.

During the school year, students will familiarize themselves with the modern and postmodern artistic trends that prevailed from the 70s to the beginning of the 21st century, such as performance, video art, conceptual art, neorealism, interactive installation, etc. Students, after acquiring theoretical knowledge, will be able to create “out of the box”, as the magic of art can emerge out of canvas surface, penetrate the three-dimensional space and stimulate all senses.

Also, there will be the possibility to participate and prepare for school or Ministry Art competitions.

Faculty Advisors: Stella Karageorgiou
Day and Time: Tuesday 15:30 – 17:00

The aim of the Orchestra is to develop students’ musical skills as well as to help them to externalize their emotions. When we talk about rhetoric, in the context of rhetorical competition, we are referring to the skillful use of the spoken word, both in prepared speeches and in situations that demand impromptu and improvised production of speech.

Skill in public speaking, which is cultivated through systematic practice and preparation for competitions (oral interpretation, impromptu speaking, group discussion, persuasive speaking, debate) are essential for the development of self-confidence, critical thinking, well-supported argumentation, as well as team work.

Debate tournaments in particular cultivate special skills in research into current as well as timeless issues and the overall formation of participants’ personalities, while generally broadening and enhancing their intellect.
