15 May 2026

Pierce students Stefanos Christos Georgitsis (A2), Dimitrios Papasotiriou (IB1), and Socratis Mallios (IB1) qualified for the Final Round of this year’s 7th Economics Olympiad!

The competition is organized by IFES (Institute of Fiscal and Economic Studies), with the support of the Bank of Greece and the Ministry of Education.

This year, 4,500 students from 250 schools across Greece participated.

As every year, Pierce had exceptionally high participation (the second highest nationwide this year) as well as significant distinctions.

It is also worth noting that students Georgitsis and Papasotiriou were members of the Economics Academy.

The competition is conducted in three rounds (school, regional, and final), and 144 students from our school participated. In the Regional Round, held on April 18 at the University of Piraeus, 86 students from Pierce qualified out of a total of 638 participants from the Attica region. In addition, Pierce Economics teacher Mr. Ilias Minas is a member of the Greek Olympiad Committee.

Panhellenic Student Economics Competition: Organized by the University of Thessaly in collaboration with the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the competition leads to participation in the International Economics Olympiad. In the 3rd Phase (Final Round), held on March 15, Pierce students Stefanos Christos Georgitsis and Thaleia Charisopoulou qualified.
ERMIS Economics Competition: Organized by the Athens University of Economics and Business, with 81 students from our school participating in the 1st Phase.
