Pierce Students Compete in the World Robot Olympiad Qualifier!

14 July 2026

A Lyceum students Alexandros-Panagiotis Rambauske and Sotiris Maniotis placed 4th in the qualifying competition for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO)  in the Future Innovators category. The qualifier brought together the six top teams from the National Robotics Competition.

The Pierce team designed and developed a fully autonomous robotic system for the scanning, preservation, and geometric reconstruction of ceramic fragments. The system's central chamber also incorporates automated temperature and humidity controls to protect fragile ancient artifacts, while its solar-powered charging capability for the integrated portable batteries enables the system to operate at remote archaeological excavation sites.

The processing workflow includes image scanning, extraction of polygonal outlines, a recursive reconstruction algorithm, and presentation of the results through the team's website, which features integrated Artificial Intelligence.
