At our Kindergarten, we once again organized a tribute to Poetry this year as part of the Literary Workshop.
Title of our tribute: POETRY: THE "QUEEN" WITH MANY FACES
We explored the many faces of Poetry—everyday, real, imaginary, mythical; faces with history, stone, marble; innocent, serious, funny, sorrowful, joyful, sad, heroic, sacred. We discovered our connection. Emotions, experiences, pieces that unite and differentiate us. For two months, the children played with words, creating poetic images and verses, delved into myths that inspired poets, felt the words of poets, and approached poetic expression in various ways. Most importantly, they felt the spark of inspiration themselves and realized that POETRY has many faces, including their own.
We concluded by showcasing our tribute in a POETIC GALLERY, open to all: Kindergarten and Primary School children, educators, parents... Anyone who loves Poetry and even those who don't—we are certain that our children's words will move them so much that they will be inspired to get to know it. Reflecting on our experiences, we saved for last the symbolism of the chosen day of celebration, March 21st, the day of the Spring Equinox. A symbolic date "that combines light on one side and darkness on the other, like Poetry..." . It is the day Persephone returns from the Underworld, and Demeter, seeing her daughter, rejoices so much that all of nature is reborn.
