In an engaging journey through history and culture, our School’s German Department introduced 8th-grade students to the topic of the Bavarian travelers who visited Greece following its War of Independence. As part of this activity, students carried out a research project, exploring a fascinating aspect of modern Greek history.
Through images, narratives, and historical sources, students learned how 19th-century European travelers perceived the newly established Greek state and recorded their impressions of its people, monuments, and everyday life.
The project provided students with the opportunity to approach history through primary sources, develop their research skills, and gain a deeper understanding of Greece’s connection with Europe during the early years of its independence.
By studying travel accounts and historical documents, students discovered how the testimonies of foreign visitors contributed to shaping Europe’s image of Greece in the 19th century.
