Third-Grade Students Take Their First Steps into Research at the Library
As part of the Library Workshops, our third-grade students began their first research project focused on bees.
First, they participated in sessions to learn how to search for books using the library’s online catalog and locate them on the shelves. They then compiled a bibliography guide, which included books and online sources about bees (see: https://acg.oliverasp.co.uk/library/learnpath/guide/Bees).
Next, the students created a concept map -mind map- outlining their research questions on bees and identified five key questions, assigning one to each group. They then searched for and recorded information from the selected books and online sources, answering their research questions on a worksheet. Afterwards, they typed and digitized their findings during computer class.
For their project presentation, the students, with guidance from the art teacher, built dioramas depicting scenes from bee life and added QR codes with the information they discovered—after learning the basic principles of creating and using them.
The students became young researchers and active participants in knowledge creation, preparing them to become engaged citizens.
