An Italian School visits our School

Sometimes you don’t need to travel to discover another world. It’s enough to open the door of your School!

Sixteen students from Italy came to be with us for three days and, instead of showing them the School, we ended up showing them the way we share: words, laughter, food, music, ideas. And so, without even realizing it, a journey began—one that needed no words.

Our connection started through a series of organized activities. The first meeting took place in the schoolyard, in front of the map painted on the ground. There, among seas and countries, we found common words—words that travel, change places, and yet are recognized—leading us to conclude that “The sea unites us. Words travel.”

From the open space of the yard, we moved into the world of ideas: the Fab Lab.

And then… to flavors. In the Cooking Lab, our Italian friends discovered Greek cuisine.

A little later, through music, communication took on a new form. The children sang together—at first shyly, then louder, and finally with smiles. The melody became the language everyone understood.

In the Vegetable Garden, our connection turned to nature. They sowed seeds, walked among the beds, and learned about the Beekeeping Program. They discovered that caring for nature is a common language that needs no translation.

At the Home Cinema, inspired by an animation, we discussed the stereotypes that exist about Greeks and Italians.

The last activity before the farewell break brought us all together again. In the Multipurpose Hall, sixth-grade students gave a presentation on democracy, and everyone joined in the discussion—putting democracy into practice.

And during the final break, just before saying goodbye, they exchanged cards, small gifts, and—above all—promises: “We will meet again.” Perhaps that promise is the most beautiful keepsake of this experience.
