From Radio Astronomy to Music: Pierce Participates in the International RADIIO Symposium

1 June 2026

Students from Pierce’s Magical Biophysics Experience Club participated in the international RADIIO (Radio Astronomy for Development, Intercultural Innovation and Outreach) symposium, an eight-hour event dedicated to radio astronomy, modern science, and international collaboration, bringing together students and educators from Greece, China, and Pakistan.

Throughout the symposium, participants attended lectures, workshops, and presentations covering topics in astronomy, technology, and data science, highlighting the global and intercultural nature of scientific knowledge.

The Pierce students presented the radio antenna they had built as part of their club activities, under the guidance of the Science Department teachers.

Their device could receive microwave radiation from space, primarily from the Sun, and convert it into an audio signal.

Using this audio material as a starting point, students from the Music Club created an original musical composition under the guidance of the school’s music teachers. This collaboration served as an outstanding example of the connection between the Natural Sciences and the Arts, showcasing the creativity and interdisciplinary approach fostered at Pierce.

Participation in the international RADIIO symposium reaffirmed that science can serve as a bridge of communication between people from different cultures, inspiring young people to explore the mysteries of the Universe and transform knowledge into creativity.
