Educational Initiatives

The following initiatives and activities have been designed and implemented for each school level:

Kindergarten

Initiatives aimed at professional development and fostering anti-bullying awareness.

  • Research and Action Projects provide students with the opportunity to explore key concepts such as volunteering, giving, respect, diversity, and emotions.
  • Thematic Celebration: “An Invisible Red Thread That Connects Us All”
  • "Welcoming Gymnasium Students to the Kindergarten Spaces": This initiative aimed to involve Kindergarten students in communication and collaboration activities with older students.
  • Collaborations Between Kindergarten and Elementary School Classes showcasing their achievements from class projects to their Elementary School counterparts, fostering mutual learning and inspiration.
  • Teacher Collaboration with the Counseling Team focusing on managing behaviors in learning spaces and during free play.
  • Parent Group Meetings with the Counseling Team with the goal of addressing the cultivation of social skills.

Elementary School

Teacher training in school mediation

English department:

  • Cyberbullying Projects
  • Lesson plans focused on themes such as rights and discrimination.
  • Action-Festival: "The Voice of Others"

Grades 1 and 2

  • Classroom climate activity: Exploring what brings us together as a group and what might affect the positive atmosphere of the classroom, including a behavior contract.
  • Group activities games from the past and present.

Grades 3 and 4

  • Intervention by the Counseling team addressing bullying behaviors, defining bullying, and exploring practical problem-solving strategies.

Grade 5

  • Lesson on School Mediation conducted throughout the year, one hour per week as part of the curriculum-based skills workshop.

Grade 6

  • Lesson on School Mediation conducted throughout the year, one hour per week as part of the curriculum-based skills workshop.
  • Responsibility initiative from the 6th-grade students who created posters with their own messages, which were displayed throughout the school.
  • Safer Internet campaign
  • Anti-bullying week activities raising awareness during Anti-Bullying Week.

Mentoring Initiative

Collaborative projects between students in Grade 1 and Grade 6.

  • Social responsibility and solidarity action: Students prepare food in the cooking lab and deliver it to homeless individuals in the local community.

Grades 4, 5, and 6

  • Presentation by Mr. Sfakianakis from the International Institute of Cybersecurity.

 

Gymnasium

  • Training through initiatives under the evaluation framework of the Institute of Educational Policy (IEP): “In Someone Else’s Shoes” and “Caring for and Helping Those in Need.”
  • Informative workshop for educators focusing on the topic of media literacy.
  • Promotion/Invitation to the Faculty Association regarding the circulars for attending training programs or informational meetings by the Directorate of Secondary Education B' Athens and The Smile of the Child, on the topic of prevention and management of school bullying.
  • Bonding activities for Grade 7 classes (bonding)
  • Continuation of "The RESPECT Project," which started last year, through the class advisors.
  • Safer Internet action
  • Action-Festival by the English Department, on the theme "The Voice of Others"
  • Action by Grade 7 classes on homelessness, in collaboration with Sxedia, within the framework of the English class and the festival.
  • Presentation to a group of students of the Pop2See Smart Class system, which facilitates access to texts for individuals with visual impairments.
  • Creation and exhibition of posters, on the theme "Living Harmoniously TOGETHER – Breaking the Silence" (6–10/3/2023)
  • Operation of the Psychology Club: actions on inclusion, cultivating empathy, and enhancing mental resilience.
  • Creation of a pamphlet by the School Psychologists, regarding the definition, recognition, and management of school bullying.
  • Implementation of the action "I Participate, I Cooperate, I Collaborate," an action for a safer and more respectful school environment, for Grades 7 and 8.
  • Volunteer actions of a charitable nature (collection of food, clothing, and money for people in need).
  • Collaboration of the Gymnasium Student Community with the organization Kids Fair Collection – designing fabric Christmas decorations, which were offered to children hospitalized at the Pediatric Oncology Hospital "Elpida."
  • Sports meeting with students of a special needs school.
  • Event dedicated to Children's Rights.
  • Informative presentation to Grade 9 on media literacy – screening of the film Social Dilemma.
  • Participation of Grade 7 and 8 students in the 5th Athens International Children’s and Youth Film Festival: screening of short films referring to the issue of school bullying.
  • Group projects by all Gymnasium classes, regarding global and European days, including Anti-Bullying Day.
  • Projects by all Grade 9 classes, on the theme of human rights and respect for diversity, within the framework of the Social and Political Education class.
  • Photography competition, on the theme "Non ministrari, sed ministrare."
  • Tribute on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
  • Operation of the UNESCO Club: actions on the theme of human rights.
  • Participation in the competition "17 Challenges for a Better World": creation of a digital newspaper on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and acceptance of diversity by the students of the UNESCO Club.
  • Participation of the UNESCO Club students in the 4th World Youth Cultural Heritage Symposium.
  • Promotion/Invitation to the Parents' Association regarding the circulars for attending informational meetings by the Directorate of Secondary Education B' Athens and The Smile of the Child, on the topic of prevention and management of school bullying.

Lyceum

  • Program: "School Bullying: Prevention and Management"
  • Program: "Empower - Enable," which includes social and emotional learning activities aimed at preventing school bullying by enhancing emotional intelligence.
  • Program: "Managing School Bullying - Effective Skills for Teachers: A Benefit for Children, Families, and Schools."
  • Action: "In Someone Else’s Shoes"
  • Experiential workshop on the prevention of school bullying.
  • Creation of a poster as part of the action "Speak Now."
  • Bonding activities for Grade 10 students.
  • Encouragement of students to report bullying incidents to their teachers, school officials, and parents.
  • Anonymous questionnaire aimed at investigating bullying incidents in the school.
  • Knowledge and remembrance events for the Holocaust.
  • Informing students about articles and books in the Library on the topic of bullying.

Participation of students in actions, programs, and events that promote equality, tolerance, and inclusion as a way of life. For example:

1. Actions for groups that need support, such as:

  • Exchange visits with members of the "Chará" Center for Individuals with Special Needs.
  • Visit to the "To Ergastiri" Center for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
  • Offering food cooked in the school kitchen by students to the psychosocial support and rehabilitation unit – Agia Paraskevi Day Center "Ikelos."
  • Participation in the Easter campaign "No One Alone."
  • IB students' bake sale to raise money for the Spastic Society/Open Door.
  • Visit to the Elderly Care Unit "Oasis."
  • Donation of food to the Agia Paraskevi Municipal Food Assistance Program.
  • Collection of aid for the Ukrainian people and earthquake victims in Turkey.

2. Sports programs such as:

  • Hosting athletes from the Special Olympics.
  • Event: "A Goal for Inclusivity."
  • Event for the elimination of racial, national, or religious differences with the presence of Maccabi.

3. Programs such as recording a book for the visually impaired, Make A Wish.

4. Dedicated section on school violence prevention in this year’s student conference ACGMUN, organized by our students.

5. "The Voice of Others" action, on the occasion of Women’s Day. This activity resulted in collaboration with the Ministry of Migration for the participation of our students in the Ministry’s programs supporting migrants.

 

  • Information session on the program "School Bullying: Prevention and Management," organized by the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Attica.
  • Encouragement for parents to discuss with their children and inform the School about concerning incidents.

Pierce IB Program

For the 2022-23 academic year, the following initiatives were carried out under the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) framework:

Visit by the founder of the organization and a team of volunteers to the School. The aim was the inclusion of refugee children in group activities. Additionally, a collection of used or new skateboards was organized for donation to the organization.

Visit of the organization's volunteers to the School. The purpose was to present the organization, which supports people with visual impairments.

Bake sale, the proceeds of which were donated to the organization "Guide Dogs of Greece" and the School's Scholarship Fund.

Visit to the School by the president of the organization. Students visited the Museum of Touch.

Organization of a basketball tournament for Lyceum students with a symbolic participation fee. The proceeds from the event were used to purchase sports equipment, which was donated to the organization "Paths of Life."

Collection of children's gifts (clothing) for preschool-aged children housed at the Center for Child Protection at Mitera.
