FAQs

We estimate that it should take on average between 70 and 80 hours for students to complete the course, but this may vary in function of the students’ prior knowledge and experience, the ease with which the course set-up will be done etc. It is important to note however that because the course can be fully attended online, students also have the possibility to work on sessions and labs on their own time and from home.

The bill of material for the car is currently being reviewed to reflect newer part versions and to seek both cost-savings and ease of procurement. In any event, a new bill of material will be issued by early 2022, which gives sufficient time for the purchase of the car-kits as well as their assembly and testing prior to the competition. The current cost for a car-kit is estimated to be €1,000.

As soon as registrations for Racecar Challenge are completed,  the organizers will endeavor to obtain grants and sponsorships from foundations and sponsors in order to cover the cost to be incurred by the winning team and its accompanying teacher, as well as the cost of car-kits in addition to the 7 which will be donated by lottery by the organizers. We are hopeful that we will find support for all these expenses, but at present we have not secured it.

Participation to the program is offered at no charge. Registrations for students and their accompanying teacher open on November 15, 2021. Student and teachers need first to register on our portal (please see Registration section). Once that registration is complete, they will receive confirmation along with the information necessary to register onto the Beaver Works Summer Institute’s site for the miniRACECAR online course.

While we encourage participants to register earlier insofar as possible, registrations close on January 16, 2022. Students will have to have completed miniRACECAR by June 15 to qualify to participate in Racecar Challenge, without exception. Racecar Challenge is open to teams of 2 to 4 Gymnasio students representing their school under the guidance of a teacher of their school. The competition Racecar Challenge will take place on June 18, 2022.

We have applied to the Institute of Educational Policy (“Ινστιτούτο Εκπαιδευτικής Πολιτικής) for their approval and are awaiting their answer.
