We estimate that it should take on average between 70 and 80 hours for students to complete the course, but this may vary in function of the students’ prior knowledge and experience, the ease with which the course set-up will be done etc. It is important to note however that because the course can be fully attended online, students also have the possibility to work on sessions and labs on their own time and from home.
The bill of material for the car is provided by BWSI and the current cost for a car-kit is estimated to be €1,200. Please note that, owing to supply-chain disruptions, some of the parts may take a long time to procure and their price may vary.
As soon as registrations for the 2nd Racecar Challenge are completed, the organizers will endeavor to obtain grants and sponsorships from foundations and sponsors in order to cover the cost to be incurred by the winning team and its accompanying teacher. But at present no funding is available to cover these costs.
Participation to the program is offered at no charge. Registrations for students and their accompanying teacher or educator open on September 19, 2022 on this site under the section Registration. Student and teachers need first to register on our portal (please see Registration section). Once that registration is complete, they will receive confirmation along with the information necessary to register onto the Beaver Works Summer Institute’s site for the miniRACECAR online course. With that information, participants can then immediately register onto the Beaver Works Summer Institute site and start the miniRACECAR online course.
The entire process is expected to take at least a few days.
While we encourage participants to register earlier insofar as possible, registrations close on October 26, 2022 at 19:00. Students will have to have completed at least the first 3 labs of miniRACECAR by April 26, 2023 to qualify to participate in the 2nd Racecar Challenge, without exception. The 2nd Racecar Challenge is open to teams of 2 to 4 Gymnasio or 1st Lykeio students under the guidance of a teacher or an educator from a non-profit educational organization. The competition 2nd Racecar Challenge will take place on April 29, 2023 at Pierce’s and virtually.
