Three Pierce athletic scholarship recipients go to World swimming competition “Multination 2020”

With the completion of the Winter Swimming Championship, Ioanna Georgopoulou, Chrysa Mitsakou and Konstantinos Stamou, Pierce students, athletic scholarship recipients and members of the Deree College Athletic Club Swimming Academy qualified for the National Team and will represent Greece in the World Championship “Multination 2020” (scheduled for April 4 and 5 in Thessaloniki).

The DEREE Athletic Club will have the largest representation, as no other team is represented by three athletes. On their way to the World Championship, the nine students – Pierce athletic scholarship recipients – won the following medals at the Winter Swimming Championship of Southern Greece:

  1. Ioanna Georgopoulou (Β Lyceum): 2 gold medals in the 50m and 200m backstroke – bronze medal in the 200m Girls’ freestyle – silver medal in the Girls category in the 4×100m freestyle and the 4×100m medley – silver medal in the 4×100 mixed freestyle (2 boys-2 girls) – silver medal in the 200m Women’s backstroke – silver medal in the 4×200m freestyle – bronze medal in the 4×100m freestyle – bronze medal in the 4×100m mixed.
  2. Doretta Zarbouti (Α Gymnasium): 2 gold medals in the 50m and the 100m B girls breaststroke – bronze medal in the 4×100m mixed. Thirteen-year-old Doretta was the youngest athlete to win a medal in the competition!
  3. Iris Kalambaliki (Α Gymnasium): silver medal in the 200m freestyle – bronze medal in the 50m B Girls freestyle.
  4. Jason Milionis (C Gymnasium): silver medal in the 100m Boys’ freestyle.
  5. Chrysa Mitsakou (Β Lyceum): gold medal in the 200m freestyle – silver medal in the 400m freestyle – bronze medal in the 100m Girls’ butterfly– 2 silver medals in the Girls’ category of the 4×100m freestyle and the 4×100m mixed – silver medal in the 4×100 freestyle mixed (2 boys-2 girls) – silver medal in the 200m Women’s freestyle – bronze medal in the 200m Women’s freestyle– silver medal in the 4×200 m freestyle – bronze medal in the 4×100m freestyle.
  6. Anastasia Boutou (Α Gymnasium): bronze medal in the 200m B Girls’ freestyle.
  7. Thalia Siganou (Β Gymnasium): 2 gold medals in the 100m and 200m butterfly – silver medal in the 50m A Girls’ butterfly – 2 silver medals in the Girls’ category of the 4×100m freestyle and the 4×100m mixed.
  8. Konstantinos Stamou (Β Lyceum): 3 gold medals in the 100m butterfly and the 200m and 400m Youth freestyle – silver medal in the 4×100 freestyle mixed (2 boys – 2 girls) – gold medal in the 100m Men’s butterfly.
  9. Dimitris Tzoumbas (C Gymnasium): bronze medal in the 200m Boys’ breaststroke.
