Angelos-Dionysios Demponos won the Silver Medal (2nd place), and Panagiotis Bouloutas took the Bronze (3rd place) at the 7th International Economics Olympiad (IEO 2024), held in Hong Kong from July 22 to 31, 2024. A total of 236 students from 52 countries participated in the competition, and both of our students were part of the four-member national team representing Greece!
Thanks to their outstanding performance in Economics, Finance, and Entrepreneurship, our students secured 2 out of the 4 medals won by the Greek team (1 silver and 3 bronze medals in total for Greece), continuing the success of last year’s team, which also earned 4 medals. This achievement highlights the high level of Pierce students in the field of Economics, supported by their participation in the Economics Academy and the guidance of their teacher, Mr. Elias Minas.
On February 18, 2024, the 3rd and final phase of the “Aristotle” competition, part of the 5th National Student Economics Competition, took place at the Department of Economics of the University of Thessaly. A total of 46 Lyceum students from across Greece participated in the exam, having first distinguished themselves in the two previous phases of the competition. From Pierce, Angelos and Panagiotis took 1st and 4th place, respectively, in the final phase, securing their place on the national team. Additionally, ten Pierce students had qualified for the final, having excelled in the earlier phases of the competition.
The national team also received support and guidance from the professors of the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly, as well as valuable assistance from this year’s sponsors, who supported the team throughout their journey. These sponsors include the Department of Economics at the University of Thessaly, Alpha Bank, Grant Thornton, the Postgraduate Program in Accounting and Auditing, the Association of Economist Accountants of the Magnesia Region, and Re-Max.
