Safe Internet Day at Pierce

As part of this year’s celebration of Safe Internet Day, Pierce Gymnasium and Lyceum students had the opportunity (during the week of February 4-8, 2019) to take part in experiential activities and interactive games, to respond to questionnaires, to watch videos, and to talk with their teachers by asking any questions they might have regarding the world of the Internet, a world that appeals to them but often concerns them and sometimes threatens adolescents.

On Tuesday, February 5, 2019, b and c Gymnasium students watched the film “Searching” by Aneesh Chaganty, on the subject of the Internet. After the film, there was a discussion moderated by Mr. Ioannis Stamatellos, President of the Society for Philosophy and Technology and faculty advisor to the Filmosophy Club.

On Thursday, February 7, 2019, a Gymnasium students attended a talk by Ms. Kelly Alchanati-Papouli, author of children’s and teenage books, on the dangers inherent in indiscriminate use of the Internet and ways of avoiding them.
