Talk on the role of sleep in the learning process

On Wednesday, November 14, B and C Lyceum students attended a talk by Professor Antonios Stamatakis on the subject: Sleep and stress: Their neurobiology and their role in learning and memory, in the Pierce Theater. Mr. Stamatakis is Association Professor of Biology and the Biology of Behavior at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in Physiology and Neurobiology, and is a Consultant to the Institute of Molecular Medicine and Biomedical Research.

The speaker explained to the students how our everyday life is affected and how the learning process is made more difficult by stress and the lack of adequate sleep. The talk ended with questions from students on issues concerning the function of the human brain during the stages of sleep and in conditions of intense Stress.
