Pierce Students on Winning Debate Teams in Two Recent Tournaments

Pierce has continued to defend its reputation as a top school in Debate, with Pierce students winning two recent (online) Debate Tournaments, both of which were held online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The first was the St. Catherine’s Annual Debate Tournament, at which a Pierce team including C Lyceum student Marilena Hadjicosta and B Lyceum student Stamatina (Mata) Thomadaki-Kyriakopoulou reached the Final Round and came first! The tournament was held online this year and took place Saturday, October 17th – Sunday, October 18th. Marilena ranked 4th among the top 10 speakers.

The second big win came on the weekend of Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd at Deree – The American College of Greece. Marilena Hadjicosta was on the winning team in the Final Round and ranked Best Speaker in the Tournament!

Marilena is also a member of Team Greece, the select group of 5 students that represent our country and the Panhellenic Forensics Association at the World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC), which was supposed to take place in Mexico last summer. Instead, there was an online tournament, at which Marilena was ranked Best Speaker in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) category!

Congratulations to our Debaters and to their exceptional Coaches, Themis Markidis and Eirini Damianaki, and best of luck at upcoming tournaments in the new year!
