Two gold medals and a silver one for the athletes of Pierce at the Panhellenic Championship K16 in Chalkida

Pierce’s student-athletes achieved their best ever performance in the Panhellenic Athletics Championship K16, in Chalkida, winning three medals and breaking many individual records. Our students participated as members of the Deree Track & Field Academy, the team that placed 11th out of 99 ranked teams in the girls’ competition and 18th out of 104 in the boys’ competition.

More specifically:
Evelyn Mitropoulou (A Lyceum) won two gold medals, conquering:

  • 1st place in the 300m with 41″, a performance better than the 2 divisions of the Panhellenic Championship while our athlete’s personal best (40.89) is the 13th best performance of all time in this event in the K16 category, and
  • 1st place in the long jump with 5.73 m. the best performance in Greece this year in the category K16.

Apostolos Kontarinis (A Lyceum) won a silver medal, placing 2nd in the 300m hurdles with 41.97″. In the thrilling final, our athlete managed to overtake two athletes, from 4th place, where he was in the last 40m, and with a tremendous finish to win the silver medal, setting a personal record.

Sotiris Stathakos (A Lyceum) placed 5th in the 100m hurdles with 15.40″ and 6th in the quadruple jump with 14.82m.

Aria Sarigiannidi (A Lyceum) came 5th in the four-legged race with 13.37 m.

Katerina Nikolopoulou (C Gymnasium) placed 11th in the final of the quadruple jump, with a best morning performance of 13.55

The younger athletes of our school also had excellent performances: Olga Fountoulaki in the 80 m. Eleni Drayou in the 80 m. hurdles, Katerina Drakopoulou in the 300 m. Panagiotis Tsenes in the 2,000 m. and Alexis Kontoloukas in the 1,000 m.

The Panhellenic Championships took place in Chalkida, on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 June 2023.
