Diamond Challenge Entrepreneurship Competition: Pierce students in the final in the USA!

Pierce – The American College of Greece, with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, organized for the 5th year, the second phase (Greek final – Pitch Event) of the “Diamond Challenge” a Global High School Entrepreneurship Competition. The winning team was the Green Spark team, comprised of Pierce students Alessandro Beggiora, Marios Meletis and Stylianos Michailidis, who will represent our country in the international final, which will be held under the auspices of the University of Delaware, from 23 to 25 April 2023 in the United States of America!

The theme of this year’s competition for Greece was “Social Innovation”. Each idea presented aimed to contribute to solving a social problem and to make a positive contribution to citizens, society and the environment. Eight teams participated in the final, which were evaluated in Phase A of the competition (judges from the University of Delaware) and advanced to Phase B, held at the Pierce Theatre on Saturday, February 18, 2023. The idea of the Pierce students who qualified for the international final (Green Spark) is the creation of a phone case that solves the problem of an uncharged phone, especially in case of an emergency! The device works by turning a crank on the back of the case, which results in the phone’s battery slowly starting to charge, from the energy generated by the dynamo inside the case. In this way, renewable energy sources are introduced into our daily life, with a significant positive impact on the environment.

  1. bio buds (Loukas Baklezos, Manos Bouzoulas)
  2. Bridging Generations (Iasonas Yapitzoglou Dimitros, Aristomenis Zographos).
