Advanced classes in Particle Physics for Pierce students

Pierce B Lyceum students Efstathios Karalekas, Vasileia Karamouzi, Pavlos Katsikadis, Maria Kolondourou and Athanasios-Nikolaos Stamou took part in the “International Particle Physics Masterclasses 2021,” the event organized at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens by the IPPOG (International Particle Physics Outreach Group).

The students watched online talks by researchers – scientists, who presented and analyzed fields and methods of basic research into elementary particles and the forces between them, thus giving the students themselves the opportunity to process actual experimental data from Particle Physics experiments. Just as in every international collaboration, participating students from the 60 countries that took part talked online about the results of their experience.

In addition, for the first time this year, the “Masterclass 2021 – Advanced Classes in Particle Physics” was organized exclusively for Pierce students! Members of the Nuclear Physics Club took part in the conference, which was organized online by the International Particle Physics Outreach Group and the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences of the National Technical University of Athens. Following the essential theoretical training, members of the Nuclear Physics Club processed actual experimental data from CERN, the largest experimental Research Center for Nuclear and Particle Physics.
