Masterclasses
General concept: Well-being
Presenter: Katerina Soldatou (Deree alumna) – Constant Dreamer with a cause.
Description:
Many people claim that they are risk takers but do they really take serious risks or do they just follow the social media pattern? Living in a fast moving world of limited talent, authenticity and character; who is really expanding, developing and living outside the comfort zone?
People should never stop evolving, trying new things and seeking knowledge. We will never be perfect but we can keep on trying hard.
Presenter’s Βio:
Katerina Soldatou was born in England where she also spent her first years. She studied Marketing at Deree. In addition to her high school and university studies, she was involved in sports, dance (classical ballet), martial arts (kick boxing, taekwondo) and free diving.
She has founded and still operates the "Beyond Aerial" School located at the Olympic Stadium of Athens (OAKA) where, after years of effort, Katerina and her team succeeded in promoting "Aerial Dance", that had been unknown in Greece. Aerial Dance and its evolution into "Extreme Aerial Dance", that is, high altitude dance, in adverse conditions, has been presented in many historical Greek sites (Meteora, Isthmus of Corinth, Rio-Antirio Bridge, Vikos Gorge). It made such an impact that project "Greece Has Soul" was born, a project that aims to promote the country as well as to protect the environment (in collaboration with Greenpeace).
Project: Greece has Soul
Aerial School: Beyond Aerial
Duration: 30 mins
Time: 18:40 – 19:10
Location: Pierce Amphitheater
Presenters: Dr. Zeta Polymenea (Pierce 79) & Dr. Persa Kyvelou
Description:
Self-regulating stress enables us in realizing our true potential and our wellbeing. It improves our focus, decreases anxiety and helps in learning disabilities. This masterclass introduces the scientific method of Biofeedback, based on neurophysiology. The workshop will be interactive, with live stress assessment at the end for up to 5 participants who express interest upon registration.
Can you control stress instead of stress controlling you? The unregulated stress has a negative impact in health, performance and behavior. In Biofeedback we observe ourselves and “see” or “hear” - with the aid of electronic devices- what is really stressing us, how we respond real-time, and the toll stress takes on our functions.
Based on accurate feedback we form a better understanding of ourselves and train in self-regulation, to perform in our full potential. We train to change responses which are harmful to our health, bodily and psycho-mentally. Biofeedback is widely utilized, indicatively: to address work-stress related disorders, by champions and Olympic teams, to decrease examination anxiety. Biofeedback is included in a CE certification program from the University of EKPA: “Coaching on health wellbeing, exercise and longevity”.
